 Fabric lengths

‘Floating water sirens’
screen print on cotton
Private Collection

One of several fabric designs screen printed by hand by Janie in her studio. Images are repeated and overlaid several times using several small screens. Each length is completely different and unique because of this process.
Repeat prints of this series are available and many other designs using different colour combinations.
Fabrics are available in cotton and linen lengths.
Janie also screen prints tablecloths and bunting flags.

Upcycled Textiles

'T-shirt Skirts'

Janie makes many items of clothing using upcycled fabrics. The t-shirt skirts are made from selections of soft cotton of upcycled t-shirts. Sections of the material is hand printed using different printing blocks. The resulting garment is a one-off colourful, warm and incredibly comfy item to wear. Several of these have been made for the Alice Springs 'Sustainable Couture' shows that take place during the infamous Alice Springs Beanie Festival held in June each year. All items now in private collections.

Fruit Bat Soft Sculpture

These special mythical creatures were highlighted to me whilst staying in a remote community in Arnhem Land. Each morning, before first light appeared, they would create a huge cacophony of screeching and chattering as they woke in their gathered hoards. The impact made me realise how strange and special they really are and how they play an important part in our eco system.

Owl Soft Sculpture

‘Owl’ detail from soft sculpture
Natural dye techniques combined with hand painting with fabric paints
60cm x 30cm x 30cm
Private Collection

A series of these soft sculpture owls emerged whilst working remotely in the Kimberley.

Owls hold a special spirit connection of wisdom across many cultures.  Janie was made aware of the particular connection of certain owls whilst staying at Mitchell Plateau in the Kimberley, West Australia.

The idea for these soft scultures evolved after seeing the particular markings made during the natural dye process.  Each time, a surprise, as the dyed cloth is slowly unwrapped to reveal textures and patterns from the objects and string that wraps the objects.

Magpie Goose Soft Sculpture

‘Magpie Goose’ sculpture
upcycled materials, wire, coloured wool and beads.
25cm x 17cm x 40cm
Private collection

These creatures evolve with an incredibly distinct expression. The position of the armature, then bound with wadding and fabric and finally feathers and beads, is a process that almost creates itself.  A quirky character always arrives unexpectedly from such a muddle of materials! In fact, after speaking to many private collectors and galleries, people often tell me that the creatures fly about and dance at night while everyone is sleeping.
Inspired by the Australian wildlife,  Janie creates an array of animals and birds available at exhibitions, craft fairs and to commission.
