my incredible life image

Originally from the U.K and Sweden, Janie visited Australia in 2001. After initially arriving in Melbourne to visit family, she took a plane ’up north’ to see what she imagined as an Australia closer to its roots. This incredible journey changed her life completely. Janie visited many places around the north, including the spectacular Kimberley country. She now works as a freelance artist, living in the rural area just outside Darwin. From this base, she develops her own artworks in combination with devising and running arts projects with remote indigenous and non-indigenous communities in the Top End and the Kimberley. Each artwork is specific to the given context. Using drawing and painting as a starting point, each artwork develops into a variety of media, creating a continuing thread from traditional to contemporary art.

Janie continues to work in both in Europe and Australia on public art commissions, exhibitions and education projects. Recent commissions in London include ‘The Magic Carpet Mosaic’, a Percent For Art public artwork for a new building.
